Lauren Smith, from Layton, took classical ballet classes and continued with that training until she graduated from high school. She participated in the Nutcracker for 10 years. She also grew up dancing and competing in jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, tumbling and musical theater. During high school she was a past of the Layton Lancelle drill team. During her Jr and Sr years she was captain of her drill team and choreographed for the team’s routines. She also choreographed her own solo that won Sterling Scholar, and won High Point Overall at nationals. Since she was little she knew she was a dancer and she knew she was never going to give it up. She has taught jazz and ballet technique for four years. She has taught private lessons and choreographed solos for girls. She is now at BYU enhancing her studies in dance education. She has traveled with The BYU Ballet Program and was a part of the BYU contemporary company, Kinnect.
